Spring on the SoPac
Friends of The SoPac Trail,
Welcome from the Friends Steering Committee. As spring is upon us and summer is around the corner, the Friends steering committee has been busy with projects that beautify the trail, enhance security, and increase enjoyment for all users.
Bicycle Check Event
This Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, we are partnering with Bike DFW to offer a free bicycle tune-up and safety check at the SoPac Respite area, located between the trail and Fisher Road.
Bike DFW has coordinated with a local bike repair shop to provide complimentary tune-ups for your bicycle. The event is open to all surrounding neighborhoods, so please stop by, get your bike serviced, and enjoy coffee and donuts on us.
Trail Beautification Efforts
We are grateful. On Saturday, March 21, a group of volunteers led by committee member Randy Elia, Hillside Neighbor, cleaned and painted the pillars at the Northwest Highway underpass. The Dallas Park and Recreation Department previously cleared the area of trash and litter. Special thanks go to Allen Mabry, White Rock Neighbor, and his Geochers group for dedicating their Saturday to this effort. This same group is also responsible for painting the culvert and drainage area under the Mockingbird Bridge.
Pollinator Garden Preparations
The SoPac Trail Garden group has been diligently preparing the pollinator garden for the upcoming summer. Neighborhood volunteers and Master Gardeners, led by Maggie Saucedo, Lakewood Trails Neighbor, have spent several Saturday mornings weeding, pruning, mulching, and planting new additions. As in previous years, the garden will provide a natural habitat for butterflies, bees, rabbits, and other wildlife along SoPac, as well as a peaceful respite for all who use the trail.
Special Thanks and Upcoming Projects
Lastly, the committee is working on two projects that will beautify the trail as well as provide some additional security. But we will leave that for another time.
A special thanks to committee members Lindsey Smith, Drew Vanderbrook, and Chelsea Carpenter for all their work on the upcoming projects and to Lindsey Smith for all her work on the website and Instagram communication.
